Being Day

If you live close to Millfield, then you'll probably be a 'day pupil'.

You come into school every morning in time to register before lessons start, and go home in the evening when school finishes or after you have finished your games, MAP or whatever other activity you may be involved in. Day pupils are members of a day 'house'. Once a week, currently on Wednesday before school, every day 'house' has an assembly.

Day houses are joined, in the same way as boarding houses, to make up a house grouping for inter-house competitions. This prevents any divide between boarders and day pupils and gives you just as much of a chance to exercise your talents as a boarder and also to be involved in the atmosphere of house pride and passion.

Sometimes you do feel like you miss out on a part of Millfield by being a day pupil, when you've gone home for the evening your boarding friends may well be socialising together on the astro without you. Having said that, it's the day pupils who have the advantage of not having to be at school on Sundays and probably more choice about what you watch on TV!

Day girls generally mix together in the "Cottage". There is a common room there where many boarders come. Upstairs is where you have a locker. Many girls hang around upstairs when the weather is cold or wet and then outside on the grass in the summer.

You still mix with boarders though because there are lots in your class and in your sports and maps. You are guaranteed to have many boarder friends because there are more boarders than day pupils at Millfield.
