I have to say, I've been to a few schools in my time and Millfield's school dinners are by far the best!
Okay, so they might not compare to your mum's Sunday roast, but considering the volume of food they have to cook, it's not a bad effort at all.
All three meals of the day are eaten by the boarders in the school dining room. You just pick up a tray and join the queue for whatever you decide you want to eat and drink.
For breakfast you can have either hot or cold or a mixture of the two. There is bacon, fried eggs, boiled eggs, sausages, baked beans and sometimes scrambled egg and tomatoes. Otherwise there is toast, bread rolls, cereals, grapefruit and usually another fruit. You are free to take as much food as you like, as it is run as a 'serve yourself' meal.
Lunchtime meals vary according to the week. There is a set menu published at the start of each term and it rotates on a two week basis. You will always get a choice of three main meals, one of which will be vegetarian. These will usually be accompanied by two vegetables and a type of potato. However, if you don't like the look of those then you can have pasta, a baked potato or salad. Every day there will be two hot puddings to choose from as well as yoghurt and puréed fruit. Oranges, apples and bananas complete the selection.
Supper gives about the same number of options as lunch, it's difficult to generalise the type of main meals available, but you will find that you're more likely to get things like chips and pizza in the evening!
If you've got an allergy of some kind then Millfield will try to cater for it. Soya milk is readily available for those allergic to dairy products.
