Punishment

Unfortunately Millfield has just as many punishments as most other schools. In most cases they could be easily avoided but some people are just born to be naughty!

If you're unfortunate enough to get caught doing something you shouldn't be then there are various punishments, according to how much of a naughty pupil you've been!

Defaulters

If you miss Games or MAP then you're likely to get a defaulter. This is a run of laps around a designated route, the number of laps is decided by whether you're a girl or a boy and how many defaulters you have. There will be a Prefect on duty who you will have to report to when you start and finish running (or walking!). If you manage to accumulate three defaulters at the same time then you're likely to get gated. Gating is explained a bit further down.

Detentions

These are the kind of 'non-sport' equivalent to defaulters. You would usually get a detention for not doing your prep, or messing around in lessons. You can get department detentions for specific subjects or school detentions, which are a little more serious, for any subject.

House Gating

If you do something wrong in your house that isn't all that serious, you would probably get house gated. This is where you have to wear your school uniform in house, even in the evenings. You may also not be allowed to watch the TV and in some houses you may be put on washing-up duty. The punishments vary according to the houses!

School & Head of Year Gating

Gating at school is quite a bit more serious than gating at house. You have to wear away match dress at all times during the school day and have to report to either your Head of Year, or to the Senior Master/Mistress at designated times. Your break and lunchtimes will be largely spent sitting under supervision. Gating isn't a nice thing, so it's best to keep away from it!

Like any school, if you just try to stay out of mischief then you'll keep away from all of the punishments. Mind you, not many people go through the whole of their Millfield career without getting at least one defaulter!!
