The school uniform at Millfield is really quite flexible compared with many other schools.
For boys, it's simply a jacket and trousers, with a light blue or white based shirt. Just as long as the jacket and trousers are a dark colour (mostly black or navy blue) you'll be fine. In the sixth form, the dress code is much the same, however, you can wear any light coloured shirt you want and if you want to wear a jumper it doesn't have to be a school one but it does need to be a v-neck jumper. Shoes are pretty simple, they just have to be dark and polishable. Most people are wearing loafers at the moment, but lace-ups are fine.
The girls' dress code is quite a bit more complicated. Junior girls, which are third, fourth and fifth year, have a uniform. This uniform is either a navy jacket with a navy pinstriped skirt or a navy pinstriped trouser suit. With either of these you have to wear a pale blue shirt, and if you want to wear a jumper it has to be a school one. This all has to be bought from the school shop. Sixth formers get things a bit easier, you have to wear tailored suits with trousers or a skirt and you can choose just about whatever you like, provided it's not leather. You can wear any colour shirt or top you like, just as long as it's not too bright and it covers your midriff. Girls' shoes should have a back and be no more than two inches in heel height, although ballet pumps are the most popular at the moment.
You'll wear away match dress for formal occasions, such as the Carol Service at Christmas, and when you're going to play a sport's match at another school. The other use of it is if you are Gated. Basically it is designed for you to look very smart when you are representing the school.
Away match dress for all boys is a black or dark suit with a white shirt. For junior girls it is the usual uniform but if you are gated then you must wear skin coloured tights. Sixth form girls must wear a skirt suit and a white shirt, again with skin coloured tights if you are gated.
